From 15 to 17 October, Dr paed. Sanita Baranova and Dr paed. Svetlana Surikova, senior researchers at the Scientific Institute of the Faculty of Education Sciences and Psychology, University of Latvia, took part in an expert meeting of the ERASMUS+ KA2 Strategic Partnership project “REMAP: Reading for Meaning and Purpose” at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

The expert meeting focused on the development of chapters for the project handbook “A Guide to Meaningful Reading”. The handbook will serve as a valuable educational resource for secondary school teachers and higher education lecturers who wish to integrate meaningful reading practices into their teaching subjects and study courses.

During the meeting, sessions were held on the theoretical foundations of meaningful reading, examples of good pedagogical practice, literary genres, and meaningful reading in the age of artificial intelligence. The leading researchers from the University of Latvia presented and discussed with project partners their contributions and ideas for the handbook chapter on the pedagogical framework for meaningful reading.

The meeting also featured several distinguished keynote speakers: Edward Brooks (University of Oxford, UK), Karen Bohlin (Abigail Adams Institute, USA), and Olivia Fialho (Dutch Royal Institute for Sciences, the Netherlands).

Face-to-face meetings within the project are always an important driving force for its progress, strengthening the relationships between partner universities and schools and supporting the continuation of our productive collaboration.
